Polish Labour Market Institutions on the Road to the EU

Abstract:
Poland's current challenge is to somplete its transition to a fully developed market economy, while advancing towards integration into the European Union. This paper is devoted to analyzing the Polish labor market's main institutions, circa 1995, in the areas of labor reallocation, wage setting, labor supply, and labor market regulations. In each of these areas, policy recommendations are proposed in order to reform them, so as to reduce unemployment and enhace Poland's chances to a successful accession to the EU.
