Abstract: Immersive virtual environments are increasingly used for professional collaboration, yet little is known about how human–technology mediation is enacted in such settings over time. While prior research has often foregrounded embodiment, other forms of mediation remain underexamined in immersive work practices. Drawing on postphenomenological mediation theory, this study examines professional meetings conducted in an immersive virtual environment over five weeks. Using a qualitative longitudinal design combining Q-methodology and video analysis, we analyse how participants articulate and enact their engagement with the system. The findings show that embodiment in immersive meetings is neither stable nor exclusive, but consistently intertwined with hermeneutic, alterity, and background mediation. Moments of disruption correspond to shifts in dominant mediation relations rather than a loss of mediated engagement. Overall, mediation in immersive meetings appears as layered and negotiated in practice. This study demonstrates how multiple mediation relations co-occur and shape experience in professional virtual meetings.
