What Prospects for a Tobin Tax ?

Quel avenir pour une taxe Tobin ?

Olivier Damette

Post-Print from HAL

Abstract: The Tobin tax has experienced a chaotic existence. Ignored for a long time by economists, it became very popular at the end of the 1990s because of spreading financial crises and its relevance to global solidarity. Today, proposals for a Tobin tax seem to be entirely forgotten. At a time when global taxes are increasingly discussed, this paper questions the relevance of the Tobin tax, on the one hand in the debate over the regulation of the monetary and financial system, and on the other in the debate over global taxes.
