Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the concept of empowerment and shows its embeddedness in cultures. Using an interpretative approach of culture, it compares empowerment in the United States and France. The author describes differences in definitions and perceptions of the need for employee empowerment as well as in its implementation in organisations.
