Abstract:
Are the Business Angels likely to coach the entrepreneur from the pre-investment stage while no decision has yet been taken ? If so, what are their reasons and what contribution can they make ? In this paper, the authors set out to study that practice in the pre-investment stage, which is not often investigated in the literature. With the help of an original theoretical framework (the model of the activity system), the authors describe the activities which are at the heart of the interactions between the Business Angels and the entrepreneurs. Their methodology is therefore qualitative and based on a deductive approach. The analysis and the comparison of four cases show that, in spite of the absence of contractual relationship, the Business Angels modify the contents of the project and the entrepreneur accepts those changes because of the contributions they make in terms of explicit and tacit knowledge.
