Abstract: The aim of this paper is to examine the role of information technology in sustainable development. In this context, we emphasize the positive and negative role of IT. We then focus on the practices implemented by companies to diminish the negative ecological impacts of IT. We end this paper by suggesting lines of thought that we deem relevant to research in information systems.
