Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the extent to which the emerging process created by the introduction of New Public Management control devices and structures in French universities can be considered as a professionalization of management control. This research is based on a longitudinal qualitative case study in a French university between 2007 and 2012, in a period of intense institutional and organizational change. Empirical data show both a partial diffusion of the new managerial institutional logic and some signs of professionalization through the dynamics of interactions between professional groups within the university studied
