Abstract: Research in management science in the field of small and medium-sized businesses has largely stemmed from the assumed specificities of this business ideal-type, including when it comes to questioning the socially responsible behaviors of managers. While the ISO 26000 standard establishes social responsibility on the basis of global sustainable development, we examine the specificity paradigm in the light of how sustainable management practices are perceived. The quantitative study has been applied to 135 business units of all sizes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and reveals that indeed small firms features partial specificities which may characterize the small and medium size ideal type.
