Abstract:
This research focuses on interfirm linkages and their role in the global value-chain. The empirical study is based on a sample of 205 cooperative alliances and mergers-acquisitions formed by French companies with foreign partners. The findings reveal that the characteristics of signed agreements vary according to whether they concern developed, emerging or developing countries. They also show that the commitment of companies tends to increase with the level of development of targeted markets. Finally, companies choose different locations according to whether they wish to associate with competitors or upstream and downstream partners in the production process.
