Abstract: The transition economies of developing countries to a market economy has a strong impact on the governance of cooperatives, transforming them from state-controlled organizations to member-based organizations. Therefore an important part of the performance of cooperatives lies in strengthening their relationship with their members. We conduct a survey on cooperatives from different regions of Algeria. The estimation of a bivariate probit highlight the determinants of the relationship between governance participation and investment in cooperative. Comparison with other studies on different institutional contexts underlines the particularity of Algerian cooperatives.
