Abstract:
Crowdfunding is a way for financing projects with Internet platforms as intermediaries between supporters and project promoters. In reference to crowdsourcing literature, our paper addresses the role played by the crowd beyond its pecuniary support. By the observation of two major French platforms (Ulule and KissKissBankBank) with the complementary detailed analysis of six projects financed by these platforms, we show that crowd contributes to the development and the success of the project by providing advices, intelligence, and less importantly creative support. We illustrate also that the crowd puts active pressures and give project promoters moral support.
