Abstract:
There are real methodological problems in calculating and comparing military expenditure which have been studied by NATO, the UN and SIPRI. Intertemporal and international estimates are also hampered by military secrecy and the volatility of inflation and exchange rates. The purchasing power parity method has been tested by the UN.
