Abstract: This research studies the impact of collective management systems (CMS) on small enterprises (SE) sustainability. We offer an original reading for assessing global performance seen through the prism of the strategic requirements (competitiveness, security, legitimacy) of Koenig (1996, 2004) and based upon paradox approaches (Smith & Lewis, 2011). Our case study shows that CMSs not only allow SEs to overcome the lack of capacities but also to improve their competitiveness, safety and legitimacy, and thus to move towards a more satisfactory balance between these partially conflicting requirements. Put into perspective with the model of Smith & Lewis (2011), these results allow us to propose that CMSs create favorable conditions for constructive management of sustainability paradoxes.
