Abstract:
The indices of producer and consumer prices of fresh vegetables, as well as the tracking of shipping and retail prices in GMS of a seasonal basket of French products representative of consumer purchases, show the high seasonality of prices, their large year-to-year variability related to weather and market conditions and a higher upward trend for consumer prices than for producer prices. From one week to the next, these two prices generally move in the same direction, although with varying differences: the gross margin of the distribution tends to slightly cushion changes in the producer price. As a trend, this gross margin shows rather upward-oriented annual changes over the study period (2008- 2014), with a significant increase in 2013.
