Abstract: This research document analyzes the determinants of economic growth in New Caledonia by decomposing variations in GDP per capital. The author emphasizes that recent prosperity relies more on dynamic demographics and a high employment ratio than on a real progression in labor productivity. However, the aging of the population threatens this model, making an improvement in productive efficiency imperative. The study highlights a significant gap in human capital, illustrated by a proportion of higher education graduates much lower than in OECD countries. In conclusion, the author advocates for a massive investment in training to ensure the sustainability of the Caledonian economy in the face of future challenges
