Abstract:
Faced with growing demands for integrity from financial institutions, compliance and fraud prevention have become essential. The associated professions maintain, with a certain degree of maturity, a delicate and shifting balance between regulatory compliance, prevention of the financial, legal and reputational consequences of fraud, customer protection and profitability. But the changes they must adapt to today are unprecedented and rapid: digitalisation has made customers, as well as fraudsters, more informed, mobile, connected and tech-savvy. Preventing risky behaviour and detecting new methods of operation, combining channels, payment methods, banking and insurance products, third-party and employee networks, both in France and internationally, requires more cross-functional, responsive and individualised approaches. To stay ahead of the curve, the compliance and anti-fraud function is, in turn, rapidly embracing the capabilities of artificial intelligence. This collective work, written by and for experts in the field, was born out of the current excitement surrounding the evolution of these professions in France. Its writing was marked by the spontaneous and dedicated involvement of contributors, revealing the astonishing dynamism of our establishments and institutions, in close collaboration with the world of research and innovation. The wealth of forward-looking visions from experts, feedback and best practices demonstrates not only the burning relevance of this topic in the field, but also the desire to share, learn from each other and unite in the face of a challenge that transcends internal silos and competing interests. This white paper reflects the collective energy, pragmatism and high standards of the French profession, which is calmly acquiring the key skills needed for cooperation and truly useful AI.
