Abstract: The moment an AI system is implemented within an organization and it starts to operate without human guidance, does it have agency? Answering that question at a moment when AI systems appear to become a reality for practitioners becomes a priority. This paper proposes the use of the socio-material Affordance theory to explore AI Agency, leveraging the concept of Affordance actualization. Through a literature review of 464 journal and conference papers, this research aims to provide a theoretical framework to understand that potential agency of AI systems.
