Abstract: The evolution of the French West Indies should be put into perspective with their postcolonial trajectory; doing this will help explain to what extent "the problem of culture" underpins the social construction of companies. What makes our research original is that we conceptualize the management styles of the French Small Island Economy of Guadeloupe in light of its colonial past. Structural equation modeling of its paternalistic management styles is implemented for this purpose
