Abstract:
This article is part of a special issue of the journal Après-Demain entitled "What agriculture for the day after tomorrow?". Edited by Pierre Joxe, President of the Seligmann Foundation, the journal aims to support those who seek to understand contemporary issues or are responsible for explaining them. This article is set in a context in which the farmers' protests that took place in France at the beginning of 2024 highlighted the existence of certain economic difficulties within the agricultural sector and underscored farmers' strong dependence on decisions taken under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). What conclusions can be drawn from the situation of agricultural incomes in French agriculture? To what extent are CAP subsidies necessary in the formation of farm incomes?
