Abstract: Based on an analysis of public money flows rather than solely on legal statuses, this interview with Sébastien Le Fol, deputy editor of L'Express, offers a new perspective on the boundary between the public and private spheres in France. He demonstrates that a very significant portion of income considered private actually depends on public decisions (subsidies, contracts, aid, tax or regulatory measures). This approach allows for a better understanding of the strong interdependence between the state and markets, the vulnerability of certain sectors to budgetary trade-offs, and the systemic risks associated with this increasing interconnectedness.
