Abstract: The first objective of this article is to show that solidarity is only a pale translation or transposition of the requirements of fraternity in the organization of society. The second is to question what an economy of fraternity could mean. To this end, Levinas's thought is taken as a witness. The first part of the article shows the ethical and economic inadequacies of the idea of solidarity. The second part develops the idea of fraternity in Levinas and the third outlines the meaning that an economy of fraternity could have.
