Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of security instability on education in the Ségou region of Mali, an area experiencing a significant increase in security incidents since 2015. The main objective is to analyze how these disruptions affect access to education and its quality, considering the region's unique geographical and socio-economic characteristics. We adopted a mixed methodology, combining quantitative analysis of secondary data (enrollment rates, number of closed schools) and qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews with educators, local officials, NGO representatives, and community members. The sample included data from 21 communes in the region, with a particular focus on disparities between districts. The findings reveal a decline in the accessibility and quality of education, exacerbated by school closures and loss of teaching staff. Despite local and governmental initiatives, these challenges remain significant, necessitating targeted and strategic interventions to restore and strengthen education in this instability-prone region.
