Emotional intelligence, technology strategy and firm's non-financial performance

Abstract: It is necessary to understand, communicate and assimilate technology strategy with business strategies to increase the performance of a business. The literature also supports that successful organisations should adopt emotionally intelligent strategies to reach competitive advantage and sustainable growth. The main objective of the study is to investigate how technology strategy, with the emotional intelligence, affects non-financial performance factors of an organisation, and to investigate whether emotional intelligence moderates the direct relationship between technology strategy and non-financial performance factors of the firm. Accordingly, authors propose a conceptual model, which demonstrates the moderating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between technology strategy and non-financial performance factors of the firm. Based on a pilot study, we have considered internal business process and stakeholder satisfaction as non-financial performance factors. Based on the extensive literature review, this study develops three hypotheses to support the arguments; technology strategy positively influences non-financial performance factors of the firm, emotional intelligence positively influences non-financial performance factors of the firm, and emotional intelligence moderates the relationship between technology strategy and non-financial performance factors of the firm. Data were collected from 7 organisations listed under the Colombo stock exchange for the pilot study. Multiple linear regression is used to analyze data. The conclusions and practical implications of this study suggest how emotional intelligence can play a moderating role between strategic management of technology and non-financial performance factors which leads to organisational performance.
