Abstract: This article investigates the nature and structure of shareholding in companies that became "Société à Mission" (SAM) following the French's PACTE Act (2019). Presenting the first exploratory quantitative study on 102 SAM, our results reveal a marked evolution in ownership structure between 2014 and 2021. After transitioning to SAM status, ownership tends to become more concentrated and stable, while the share held by employees and public actors increases, thus supporting the mission objectives.
