Abstract:
Since the 2010s, digital job platforms have entered the agricultural sector. Little has been written about them, and their growth in a sector characterised by recruitment difficulties, as well as a high degree of informality and powerful professional organisations, raises questions. This paper draws on the initial fieldwork of a PhD thesis and is based on a corpus of 23 interviews with managers or employees of agricultural job platforms, and representatives of professional agricultural organisations (PAOs), to offer two main contributions. Firstly, to describe these platforms, propose an initial typology, and thereby contribute to refining our understanding of the platforms involved in labour exchange. Secondly, based on this description, to formulate a research question that examines the very notion of platform capitalism in the context of agriculture and the effects of platforms on the intermediation of agricultural employment.
