Abstract:
Poverty and development are closely intertwined. Development is indispensable for eradicating poverty, while poverty reduction is becoming a necessity to ensure sustainable and equitable development. On one hand, improving access to education, employment, and healthcare, as well as reducing inequalities, will be crucial. On the other hand, everything will depend on how the benefits of growth are shared and the effectiveness of adopted public policies. This paper aims to present the relationship between development and poverty by providing an assessment of the theoretical analysis conducted. To achieve our objective, we have established a literature review that primarily addresses this relationship. Several authors have developed works focused on poverty and development. From a multidimensional perception to sector-specific solutions, there is an interconnectedness between poverty and development as both concepts are complex. Drawing upon the Millennium Development Goals, reformulated as Sustainable Development Goals (2015), it can be observed that reducing poverty can be an opportunity to support development in all its aspects.
