Abstract: The research visibility of any young researcher and, by extension, their future career hinges largely on their scientific publications. However, some doctoral students at African universities complete their theses without producing scientific publications. This paper aims to analyze the factors associated with the lack of scientific publications among doctoral students and PhD holders from the ED-ESH and ED-STI doctoral schools. A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 18, 2021, and January 7, 2022, involving doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from these two schools. The sample consisted of 93 respondents: 75 doctoral students and 18 PhD holders. The results show, firstly, that men are 0.139 times more likely than women not to publish. Secondly, respondents from the ED-STI school are less likely not to publish compared to those from the ED-ESH school. Thirdly and finally, presenting at a scientific event increases the likelihood of publishing a scientific article.
