New architects for (non-)truth? Leakers, at the boundaries of information, communication, and organizations

Abstract: This article examines leakers as emerging producers of (non-)truth within contemporary digital capitalism. Positioned at the boundaries of information and communication, leakers challenge traditional organizational secrecy by disclosing industrial secrets. The study investigates whether leakers' activities constitute a form of resistance or an extension of preexisting logics. Through a netnographic analysis of 1,366 posts from the Reddit forum "r/LeaksAndRumors," the research applies an ethico-political framework inspired by Plato's Euthyphro (asebeia, eusebeia, and dyssebeia). Findings reveal that leakers primarily target entertainment multinationals, exhibiting a hybrid ethos. They oscillate between eusebic adherence to brand intellectual property and asebic subversion of official mediatization channels. Ultimately, leakers do not offer radical critique but participate in an ambivalent regime of truth, demonstrating how digital capitalism may integrate its contradictions within the attention economy.
