Abstract:
This work explores how artificial intelligence–when integrated into business intelligence systems-can become a strategic lever for digital innovation, while simultaneously becoming a potential source of trust erosion if accountability and governance principles are absent. Despite the widespread adoption of analytics and AI in business intelligence, the literature tends to divide into two paths: one that examines the impact of business intelligence and analytics on performance, decision-making, and competitive advantage and another that focuses on responsible AI principles such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and risk management. This separation results in deficiency in explaining the "missing link" between responsibility as an organizational capacity and trust as an intermediary mechanism, and then between trust and sustainable competitive outcomes within digital innovation systems. This research adopts a theoretical approach based on an integrative literature review and the development of test proposals/hypotheses linking the dimensions of responsible integration and trust with the outputs of digital innovation and competitive advantage. It also identifies contextual variables (such as data governance maturity and organizational pressure) that can strengthen or weaken these relationships. The research contributes theoretically by bridging disparate literatures and practically by providing a guiding model that enables organizations to transform responsibility from a standard slogan into an operational and strategic capability that generates both value and trust.
