Abstract:
In the scope of our doctoral research, business education is considered as an industry where business schools act as firms. Our thesis focuses on the strategic management field, with aims to explore how schools revisit their MBA curricula. Within this framework, joint and merged MBA programmes have been analysed as a counter point of Porter's five forces (1980): rivalry among competitors, entry barriers, substitutions' threats, buyers' and suppliers' bargaining power. The objective of this communication is to demonstrate that Porter's five forces have been modified. The competitive advantage is driven by the cooperation inside the industry itself. Instead of being threatened and bargained by the forces, the industry of management education challenged the forces with its cooperative programmes.
