Abstract:
This article compares the R-D policies of U.S. and European firms in the space launch industry using patent data from 2001 to 2021. It characterizes their knowledge bases and shows that American firms differ from established European players through distinct paths of knowledge integration, R-D specialization, and commercial strategy.
