Would Inclusive Green Growth Improve Food Security in Africa?

Abstract: According to several reports, food security still remains a major problem in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to the ECA (2012), 26.8 per cent of undernourished people in world live in Sub-Saharan Africa. This paper contributes to the literature on inclusive green economy (IGE). It analyses how the application of inclusive green economy principles could contribute to improving food security in Africa. Findings show that IGE can stimulate agricultural productivity and production and promote better management of lands and natural ecosystems. In addition, they can integrate agricultural markets by improving infrastructures. Final they provide basic social services and make farmers more productive and create green and inclusive jobs and business opportunities that speed up agricultural production and economic growth.
