Abstract: A company is faced with a dilemma between its specialisation, which offers it induced learning favourable to increasing returns, and the need for its renewal, which is opposed to previous learning. In the context of the conversion of an arms industry, the problem is sometimes even more difficult to solve because the existing equipment may no longer have the necessary efficiency to face civilian competition. This is sometimes less true for subcontracting, even if the technological specificities may change according to market considerations. The regions can support subcontracting networks. A network is all the more likely to be set up if the activities of the players are both complementary and autonomous.
