Abstract:
As home and leisure injuries are the leading cause of death among children and adolescents, this report proposes recommendations based on scientific evidence useful to develop a public health communication policy for the prevention of this major problem in France. Based on an analysis of scientific literature and following a multidisciplinary perspective, the first objective of the report is to provide knowledge required for the development of an effective public policy (determinants of injuries related to children/parents/environment, levels of possible individual /community actions, theoretical models of behavior change and resistance to change, effectiveness of different types of communication/prevention actions with respect to both traditional/digital media). The second objective of the report is twofold: First, some recommendations to design communication strategies to prevent injuries among young people under 15 years of age in France are listed and, second the different steps required to achieve an effective public policy of prevention are described. Overall, the report provides promising guidelines to promote the effectiveness of prevention of involuntary injuries in France. ►This work received funding from the Direction générale de la santé and assistance of the Union nationale des associations familiales (UNAF).
