Abstract:
This research note aims at rendering the characteristics and behaviour of large Chinese public enterprises that operate in Africa by illustrating them by the activities of two of them in Algeria. It is therefore in line with the research work undertaken in recent years on the role of these large Chinese enterprises in Africa. But, even more so, it is continuing my efforts to approach the Chinese presence by using, as far as possible, the sources in the Chinese language, whether it be academic studies or the reports accessible on the sites of these companies or of their tutelage ... Indeed, Algerian sources which come in counterpoint will not be neglected. The perspective we draw from it offers a somewhat different picture of the usual clichés and allows qualifying the interpretation that is generally given to the behaviour of these companies, in particular the Chinese consortium that was entrusted with part of the construction of the East-West motorway.
