Abstract:
The economic analysis of obesity and overweight consists of two categories of costs: direct costs and indirect costs. Indirect costs are related to the losses experienced by individuals suffering from obesity and overweight, as well as by society. All authors agree that these costs exceed direct costs. Direct costs are associated with healthcare expenses. This work reviews the literature on the economic costs generated by obesity and overweight, as well as related pathologies.
