Abstract:
As a result of "an academic thinking begun almost 30 years ago" Patrick Savidan's book Social justice helps the readers to discover this field due to the quality of authors selected, whose concepts face the facts et deal successively with redistribution, social recognition and environmental transitions. This book of political philosophy is so rich that it must be evaluated pencil in hand, because of the great number of remarks or reactions which are to be noticed. The following comments are those of an academic who has devoted the major part of his research to economics and philosophy in general and, in particular, to the liberal theories of justice. For this reason, the appreciations, mainly critical ones, concern the definition of liberalism, the place afforded to economics and the field of social justice. Ultimately one may regret an excessive disciplinary compartmentalisation between political philosophy and economic philosophy, which conversely highlights that we need more transdisciplinary thinking about the enigmatic question of social justice.
