Prices in Östergötland in the harvest year 1634

Abstract: After the death of King Gustav II Adolf in 1632 the French government sent out a diplomatic mission, headed by count Claude de Mesmes d’Avaux, to Denmark, Sweden and Poland in 1634 in order to achieve an armistice between the afore named countries. A secretary of that mission, Charles Ogier, kept a diary of the journey through Sweden. The diary was first published as a book in Swedish in 1914, and as facsimile in 1978 and 1985. The Swedish government paid for all the expenses of the French diplomatic mission in Sweden. From the dating in the facsimile from 1978 I have found bills of many necessities from the journey in the accounts of the count of Östergötland, artefacts from the Swedish National Archives (Riksarkivet). As there are only a few published prices at all from Sweden before the year 1635 due to a very few sources this paper gives an opportunity to display prices of a great many necessities from the harvest year of 1634.
