International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2006, vol. 2006, 1-14

Abstract:

Three new distributions on the unit interval [ 0 , 1 ] are introduced which generalize the standard beta distribution. Thesedistributions involve the Bessel function. Expression is derivedfor their shapes, particular cases, and the n th moments.Estimation by the method of maximum likelihood and Bayesestimation are discussed. Finally, an application to consumerprice indices is illustrated to show that the proposeddistributions are better models to economic data than one based onthe standard beta distribution.
