Abstract: The focus of the present paper is on the renewable energy developments in the Mediterranean Region. In the first part is presented the EU policy framework for renewable energy and the targets set for 2020, both at the EU and the member state level. In the second part, are explored the patterns of renewable energy developments in the Mediterranean basin, against the 2020 targets. In the final part, conclusions are drawn on the prospects of the Mediterranean countries for reaching the renewable energy targets for 2020.
