The Ukrainian Economy and the Process of Reform: An Overview
M. Ishaq
No 9616, CERT Discussion Papers from Centre for Economic Reform and Transformation, Heriot Watt University
Abstract:
This paper reviews the state of the Ukrainian economy since independence and the extent of the role played by the reform process in the country’s transition to a market economy. It also offers an assessment of the future prospects for a successful transition of the economy to one based on market principles. It is noted that a combination of economic mismanagement and political factors have hampered reform, and contributed towards a largely poor economic performance.
