Abstract:
The competitive market in wish the small and medium enterprises(SMEs) operate increases pressure for them adopt information and communication technologies (ICT) obtain more accurate and reliable information to increase value. These companies account for 90% of companies in Mexico. They are a source of employment and self-employment. The purpose of this work is to identify the environment in which small and medium enterprises (SMEs) adopt information and communication technologies in the Mexican case. The results reveal that Mexican firms, especially SMEs, reflect an improvement in ICT adoption, however, they use basic ICT, such as PC’s, Internet and e-mail. There is a wide digital gap related to company size. Bigger companies wish make the most use of these technologies and smaller firms don´t take advantages of the potential benefits.
