Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze market factors including price, façade/business sign, furniture/equipment and exhibition/stock, in grocery stores and relate them to corporate survival. The study presents an observation of commercial factors in grocery stores in 2012. We then follow the businesses during the next three years to detect survival or mortality. Commercial factors were assessed through observations in visits to establishments in the form of mystery shopping. The sample covers a total of 48 stores. During the four years 29.1% of observed grocery stores ceased operations. A positive relationship between business survival and commercial factors were found like business sign material and patronage, number of shelves, better exhibition and stock. The study did not find relationships between business survival and price, technical equipment, or facades condition.
