Revista Global de Negocios, 2018, vol. 6, issue 5, 1-17

Abstract: In business, women have a more prominent role today. Nevertheless, the participation of women in management positions, is lower than for men. This article analyzes the reasons why women fail to achieve management positions. This study was conducted from November through December of 2017. We examine Cuenca City, Azuay province, the third most important city in Ecuador. This city includes 813 Anonymous Societies, of which 10% are managed by women. This research work uses qualitative field work. We wish to identify women manager profiles, their management style, their competencies, and the main barriers that women face to getting management positions. The findings indicate that the county´s regulatory framework does not encourage women in management positions and it should be improved
