Abstract: Innovation is traditionally associated with large companies where there are resources, both human and material enough to carry out innovation initiatives. It is related to the investment of significant amounts of money to generate new products or services and improve existing products or processes in the organization. However, practice has shown that innovation goes beyond just launching new products to new markets or acquiring new equipment or machinery that makes production processes efficient. Innovation occurs initially by analyzing processes, markets, inputs and suppliers to identify sources of significant improvements that lead to the generation of competitive advantages. Micro and small companies can find opportunities in innovation of their products, services and processes. This research presents the results obtained from a field study in which 92 micro and small temporary accommodation companies were analyzed in the State of Morelos. We focus on their level of innovation to identify areas of opportunity of the objects of study
