Abstract:
Despite the substantial interest by research geographer, experts, policymakers and the World Bank, there are still atypical and disintegrated theories of financial literacy and financial inclusion (FLFI) as the research domain is still emerging. In response, the objective of this research is to review and synthesise FLFI research and to suggest directions for future research. We review certified knowledge (journal articles) published during the first two decades of the 21st century. The research on FLFI is fragmented and has emerged in the 21st century in diverse directions. The current research unearths key publication outlets and articles, theoretical and methodological approaches and major variables, and several themes of FLFI literature. The findings also suggest future research direction in FLFI and themes associated to them. The current research is an attempt to summarise the current state of the FLFI literature and unearths future research direction that requires immediate attestation.
