The relationship between business-IT alignment and organisational performance: an empirical investigation from multilevel view

Abstract: The previous studies have significantly showed that the business-IT alignment is practically very important for the performance of the organisation. Its value is being derived from the influence of strategy on the outputs of the business. Hence, business-IT alignment is recognised as very important for the profitability of the organisation. On the other hand, the previous studies have a limited focus on the two approaches: strategy content and strategy process, as impacting to the organisational performance. Therefore, this research study attempts to fill the gap in the literature and to test the relationship between business-IT alignment and performance. The survey was conducted in universities along with assessing the contribution of strategy content and strategy process in the effects of strategic alignment on the performance. The data collected from the survey is used in the context of Saudi Arabia. The findings of the study show that the positive effects on the performance in the strategic alignment are statistically significant, where the effects can be varied in the absence of either strategic content or process.
