An online housing recommender system using case-based reasoning

Abstract:
Recommender systems are very useful in assisting users to reduce the complexity involved in making decisions on housing choices, given a large number of choices available to review while searching online. It is therefore important to proffer solutions that can apply to specific requirements of individuals. This research work focuses on the development of a case-based online housing recommender system with the incorporation of critique-based feedback mechanism. Six important attributes relevant to selecting housing were considered and the attributes weights were assigned with consultation with estate agents. Ado-Ekiti metropolis was used as a case study. The system evaluation was carried out using a survey form integrated into the developed web-based application with eighty users. On the average, more than 70% of the participants found the proposed framework simple and easy to use. Thus, the system can be recommended for use by estate agents and individuals in search of housing online.
