International Journal of Business Performance Management, 2024, vol. 25, issue 2, 219-241

Abstract: Entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises generally strive very hard to achieve a sustained advantage over their competitors; dynamic managerial capabilities of these entrepreneurs could profoundly prove to be one significant source of such an advantage. The primary objective of this study has been to investigate the significance of valuable, rare, inimitable, heterogeneous, non-substitutable dynamic managerial capabilities of the entrepreneurs in creating a sustained competitive advantage for their SMEs. Overall, the findings demonstrated substantial positive effects of various facets of dynamic managerial capabilities of the entrepreneurs on sustained competitive advantage, providing further empirical substantiation to the central tenets of the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm. In essence, the research findings not only ascertain the association between various facets of dynamic (managerial) capabilities and competitive advantage, but also offer some useful insights to those seeking to sustain the competitive advantage.
