Fuzzy logic approach for international peace and sustainable development: Euphrates-Tigris river basin case

International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering, 2013, vol. 15, issue 3, 238-252

Abstract: The purpose of this work is to establish and show a simple logical model in the linguistically uncertain domain of peace and strategic development concepts, which have fuzzy variation domains. Due to uncertainties it is necessary to exploit human ability to make rational decisions with soft computing tolerance. Soft computing is oriented towards fuzzy logic (FL) modelling, which addresses imprecision and approximate reasoning. Simple and convenient FL modelling software is proposed for the conflict scenarios based on three factors as state interest in water resources and riparian position in addition to internal and external power availabilities among the riparians. All these factors provide answers in an FL manner concerning the national and international consequences of the population, technology and natural resources within the national demands, limitations, aspirations, capabilities, pressures and needs. The application of the fuzzy methodology for peace and sustainability is presented for the Euphrates-Tigris river basin.
